Germany - Bavarian Alps

15 - 30 September 2012 with some flexibility depending on chosen mode of transport

A relaxed tour with moderate mileage, spectacular lake and mountain scenery and free time for sightseeing. Visit castles and palaces between Munich and the Alps built by King Ludwig II. Optional visit to Oktoberfest! Travel by Eurostar and City Night Line sleeper.

Price with no travel included £1200. The travel options are several and flexible. Due to only 8 bike spaces on the sleeper train (Paris - Munich), some participants must come out on the 14th (Fri) and/or return on the 30th (Sun). Another option for arranging your own is Newcastle - Amsterdam ferry and then City Night Line sleeper to Munich. If this extends or shortens your holiday, the price will be adjusted by £50 per day. The land-only package runs from the 14th to 29th, including an extra night in Munich at the start, but can also be adjusted. Although there will usually be mountains in view, the route follows valleys and low passes between them with much lovely lakeside cycling. Most of the hotels are beside or within a short walk of a lake. Everyone has seen pictures of Neuschwanstein Castle. Here's your chance to see it for real! Included is a 14-day Bavarian Palaces pass, giving free access to this and Ludwig's other works, plus much more, including several of the sights you may wish to see on your free day(s) in Munich. Many of the towns and villages en-route are also picturesque and apart from the Alps, the undulating farmland and forest creates a pleasant scene.
